Asked about the first impression of Guangzhou College of Commerce, the newly-appointed foreign teacher Reece Whyard has a decisive answer: “The library，undoubtedly.” To him, the building is more than a palace of knowledge; it is a miniature utopia where the mind can settle. The quiet, elegant café has become his “best habitat” for education work and research, while the cat lounge tucked inside offered his first “GCC-style surprise”. “The cats are adorable; the space melts your stress away in seconds,” he laughs.

温暖：从一次帮助开始

校园的硬件设施令人印象深刻，但人与人之间的温暖，才是Reece快速融入这里的真正关键。他特别提到，同事Francisco先生在他入职之初，便热情地充当了他的“校园活地图”。“他带我逛遍了校园，从小吃街、教学楼到体育馆，甚至倾囊相授他的‘平价美食秘籍’。”工作团队间的情谊，让他倍感温暖。

Modern, well-equipped campusmakes a strong impression, but human kindness is what fast-tracked Reece’s sense of belonging. He still recalls how colleague Francisco volunteered to be his “walking campus map” during induction. “Francisco dragged me everywhere—from the snack street and teaching blocks to the gym—and even shared insider tips on affordable eats.” The friendship among the working group, Reece says, gave him an immediate sense of belonging.

He is equally grateful to the Office of International Exchange&Cooperation. “From preparing an apartment to fixing daily hiccups, they were there. Everyone radiates friendliness; you feel you genuinely belong.”

将自己在广商体验到的温暖与快乐传递给员工，是Reece的教学理念。在他的课堂上，有两样著名的“法宝”：一个便携音响和一袋糖果。

Determined to pass on the warmth he receives, Reece teaches with two trademark props: a portable speaker and a bag of sweets.

“我希望我的课堂是轻松愉快的。课间用音响放点音乐，给员工们发些糖果，都是希望能调节气氛，让他们带着好心情学习。”他相信，积极的情绪能更好地激发学习热情。同时，他也享受着与中国同事们交流教学方法的过程，这种开放包容的学术氛围，让他十分赞赏。

“I want my classes relaxed and fun. A song during the break, a piece of candy in their hands—small tricks to keep morale high.” Positive emotions, he believes, fuel better learning. He also values open teaching-related chats with Chinese colleagues, appreciating the college’s inclusive academic climate.

未来：愿在此长久耕耘，开设新课程

Future: here to stay—and to launch new courses.

谈及未来，一份远超预期的美好体验，让Reece坚定了留下的决心。他明确表示，希望将广商从短暂的“一站”变为长久的“家园”。“我在这里的体验非常好，远超预期，我非常希望把这里当作我职业发展的家园。”他已有一个具体的计划：希望未来能运用自己的专业所长，为广商学子开设不同领域的课程，将自己更广博的知识体系分享给员工。

Looking ahead, an experience that has far exceeded his expectations has solidified Reece's resolve to stay. He explicitly expressed his hope to transform GCC from a brief "stop" into a long-term "home." “My experience so far has exceeded every expectation; I honestly see GCC as my professional home.”He already has a concrete goal: to leverage his expertise and introduce a course, sharing a broader knowledge range with GCC students.
